Need Help! Accu check more compact, finger on the black band aid!?

I've recently been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I have to start putting myself 4 times a day every day. I'm scared to death of needles and the like. (Went therapy thinking about 4 years ago.) I bought the Accu Check Compact Plus, but I'm having problems. My husband tried it last night and was over 5 strips thinking for me. I went through twice (with his help.) He did not can be here all the time and although I have done twice this morning, getting the error twice. Is it necessary to cover the strip in the blood? Should I keep my finger below the black part of the strip in the meter or can I keep it on the top of the black strip? Can I turn off the fringe on the bottom and sides or is too movement leading to an error? Any advice, any advice is welcome. I've been through three strips of this morning alone and I still have to eat! (this is only the first part.) These strips are expensive and it's getting harder and harder to do this!

The white area must be completely covered with blood so we can record and take the test. Get a drop of blood that goes that is the size of a peppercorn small and do not touch your finger to the entrance area, only allows the drop of blood to the touch and suck you in. If not getting a fairly large reduction of blood lancet device to adjust the slot when penetrating a little deeper. You get the hang of it. I'm still needle-phobic, too, but I managed with the years that these and Psych I was not really my syringes needles!
